pink

This is an outfit I have been wearing a lot lately. These boy pants strike again, along with a long cardigan and monk strap shoes. I love the way all the menswear contrasts with my little crop top. And oh what's this? I put some pink in my haaaaair. I read somewhere that red hair doesn't take new color very well and I believe it. This is after half an hour of leaving it in, no shower after. But subtlety is key, I suppose. Anyways, I felt the need to put some pink in my hair for spring. I might get a haircut soon because my long bob has become far too long, but I wanted to edge it up with a new color while I put off going to the salon.

Well I finally found a blog layout I really love. For a while I was entertaining the idea that I would design my own, but no I do not have the patience for that. But I really love this one. I want a clean space for images and thoughts. I want to start writing more. Talk about art and film and fashion instead of just visually showing what interests me. Time to use your words, Jenna. These are some self-portraits I recently took. Naturally, I needed some moons and stars.

I've been trying to figure out why I photograph myself and my friends in veils so often. Then I found this quote on Vogue's facebook: "What is the appeal of a veil? 'It turns a pretty woman,' Vogue wrote in 1917, 'into a siren.'" And there ya go. I love the mystery and the transformative nature of just one sheer piece of fabric over my face. It's like a superhero's mask, but I still wanna show off my rad makeup, duh.

Pink Snow Nails

For as obsessed I am with my nails, I really don't do much to take care of them. I love painting them and I love looking down and seeing long nails on my hands (I love hands in general) but I don't do much for them. So when I was sent some nail tips by the nail polish company Julep (and when I bought my mom a manicure set for Christmas) I actually started to think about how to better take care of my nails. I usually have long matte-painted nails or super sparkly ones (here and here) but I decided I would go for a little subtlety for winter. I cut them a little shorter than usual since they generally just grow long from my neglect. I stole a little of my mom's new cuticle oil, rubbed on some jasmine lotion to improve the overall health of my hands, and got to work on some powdery pink nails.

A note about the books: I have been having many conversations with myself about if I want to pursue a job in fashion and if I will feel fulfilled when doing so. I still don't know the answer, but I decided to consult some of the greats. Grace Coddington's memoir is especially interesting because I think creative direction is really what I would go into.

 So for these nails I used a very light shade of pink polish. It took like 8 coats of that stuff but I finally made it to a really lovely pink base. I then applied a topcoat and pressed the powder onto it. I used this sparkley powder I got from ULTA ages ago and I never knew what it was for but it worked pretty well here, so I must have solved the mystery! I think the key was to just put a copious amount of powder on my fingers, let it dry, and wash my hands so it came off of my fingers and stayed on my nails. I actually really like the result and it seems that it was applied pretty evenly.

Goth Girl Looks

I never do makeup posts because I definitely do not think I am any kind of authority on makeup products. I generally have no idea what I am doing. But I have to show off my new discovery today. Purple eyeliner as lipstick. Hell yeah.

RED ALERT: I'm a Nail Artist Now

HIYA FRIENDS so fun thing: I am almost positive I have mono, still waiting to hear back from the doctor for sure. But. Pretty sure. Soooo it's been a lot of days laying around my house. So I paint my nails a lot. Today I did this rather shocking gold treatment and then took weird pictures of my hands. I like hands though. They are one of my favorite body parts. Fun facts about Jenna.

My friend Arianna was Harley Quinn. Suuuuuch an awesome night, we got $3 Boo-ritos from Chipotle then went trick or treating (at age 20). SO FUN.
