Getty Goings-On

I just spent a while thinking about the future of my blog etc. etc. In the past I have been very huffy about limiting what I post about, making posting schedules, and developing an overall theme for my blog. I wanted freedom, not schedules goddammit! But lately I have been finding that the unstructured nature of my blog has been bothering me. It feels too scattered. I've never been a person that has wanted to share everything on the internet. Instead, I like creating content specifically for this online space rather than feeling like my blog defines me. So I am going to try something new. Gone are the days of me posting whatever photos fall into my lap. I would rather have this as a more curated space with a more specific theme than "I thought this was cool so I posted it without much thought." I would now like to turn to the things that really make me tick and think: history, womanhood, and art.

I've been wanting to do more interviews and profiles on women that inspire me, and that is coming soon. For now, I have an outfit post (outfits will now be filed under the "Adornments" tab at the top of my page) from the Getty Center yesterday. As a girl obsessed with 16th-century European art and living far away from most of it in Los Angeles, the Getty Center is a real haven for me. I actually just applied to a job there, but who knows what will become of that. Anyways, Ian and I paid the museum a visit yesterday and it was lovely as ever. I wore my favorite striped jumpsuit (and yes, it is from Forever 21 and I certainly want to move away from fast fashion retailers like that, but for now ya girl is broke and needs to wear the clothes she already has). The Getty is just the calmest place in LA and it has a definite air of magic to it. A modern marble exterior filled with centuries of magical objects as its interior.

Morgan and Ally

A few weeks ago Morgan and Ally and I went out to a super secret beautiful park in LA. (It's not that secret: it's called Franklin Canyon.) Ally yelled at me for making her trudge through the forest in some sandals...which is fair...but whaterver, girl, you gotta be prepared for adventures when you're with me hehe. We didn't have much of a plan for these photos. I was kind of thinking of Cass Bird's Rewilding. I love the ease of her style so I was kind of trying to emulate that. But taking pictures felt so good. Only two more weeks and I can do it whenever I want! Graduation and creativity here I come!!!

LA Softens

I am a week into my second quarter at UCLA and already exhausted, but that's the way it goes. But I feel like I have really settled into UCLA and LA in general. For a long time I felt like I didn't belong in Los Angeles. I mean, I still probably don't, but I definitely feel it softening. It doesn't seem so hard and scary anymore. I am learning its secret passageways and staying alert to its joyous moments. It certainly helps that I live in the cutest guest house with my love and I am studying the things I think are fascinating. Today I wanted to take photos for the first time in a while. These felt good: Ian took them for me at sunset on our sleepy little street in West Hollywood. I'm wearing my Band of Outsiders trench and new boots from Madewell. This trench is like the best thing, especially because I got it as a gift after my internship with them. I feel lucky to have been a small part of the magic that was Band of Outsiders and I think of that every time I wear this. I suppose LA has brought me a lot of happiness after all.

Rain Room

Ian and I got to go see Rain Room at LACMA! Ian remarked to me that LACMA does a really good job of combining really well-curated "serious" exhibitions and some fun projects that are just really cool. This is definitely one of those projects that feels very special but is also kind of like a playground. The group we went in with was a diverse mix of kids, old people, LA girls lookin' to Instagram it up, and serious art types. What's so cool about these immersive projects is that they kind of put everyone on the same field. Rain Room is part of the Light and Space movement that came out of Southern California. While the movement comes with quite a bit of theory and history, the actual pieces it produces are only brought to life when experienced. Meaning: they are only successful when they attract groups of people who are willing to forego thought and actually experience the sensations that Light and Space artists strive for. Rain Room turns you into a ball of joy and wonder as you cautiously but excitedly step forward into the rain. You spend the whole time hoping no water falls on you but secretly enjoying when it does. You can barely hear anything but the sound of falling water and the bright light is blinding but adds to the mystery. I just love it.
