Details: Latest from Rocksbox

12.19.2016
Oh man, the internet is out at home so I am currently sitting in the parking lot of my local Starbucks to get wifi because I don't feel like going in and being guilted into buying something. Still working on a new Scarlett and Giselle, but I really liked these photos and wanted to share them. These are my latest pieces from Rocksbox, the jewelry subscription service that I style for. If you are in the US and would like to try it for a month free, use code "jennastylist"! The amazing choker is from one of my favorite designers, Jenny Bird, and the earrings are by our private label SLATE. Loving these gold beauties for the holidays.

The Plague Doctor

10.27.2016
I spotted the work of Zai Zai Jewelry on Etsy (x) about a month ago. She makes fantastic necklaces out of polymer clay and there were quite a few I simply needed. But this one...I knew I needed this one for October. I dropped very heavy hints to Ian and he got it for me for our anniversary (3 years woohoo)! This is honestly the most unique necklace I have ever seen. I showed it to Ian's dad and he said"...what is the significance of the breasts?" To which I answered, "I really don't know but aren't they fabulous?" This necklace is called The Plague Doctor in reference to the mask that the woman is wearing. These masks were used during the Bubonic Plague to shield the doctors from the airborne illness. They would stuff the beaks of the masks with herbs and flowers to help with the smell and provide protective properties. I think this necklace was so arresting for me because the heavy mask next to the woman's flesh just feels so wrong. She seems to symbolize protection but also vulnerability, like a Goddess of the Plague or something.
Things like this are obviously right up my alley: I, being a girl who loves studying medieval art and practices, can't help but get excited every time someone references these things in their art. I like that the style is slightly steampunk, so it almost brings the piece into the realm of Victorian gothic. I knew I needed some eerie pictures to go along with it so I shot these in my bathroom. I think I will feature it again as the winter months come, hopefully outside next time so I can get some more evenly-lit detail shots. For now, please enjoy my ghostly take on the Plague Doctor Goddess.

Details: Red and Silver

6.16.2016
Okay y'all I wanna be a good blogger now. I can do it. I am excited about many things like travel, photography, clothes, makin stuff, writing, etc. I don't want my posts to feel so random. I want this space to feel curated and edited. I think I'll start a new little section called "Details" because sometimes it's the little things that make an outfit (or sometimes I don't feel like getting out my damn tripod). This might be a reflection of how I feel lately...people keep asking me "Well what are your plans now that you've graduated?" To which I respond, "Pls stop, I have no plans." Because I don't really...I just want to focus on the little moments and details and maybe a big picture will come together. For instance, this red slip dress I bought from Express filled a void: I felt I didn't have a solid slip dress so I got one. I rarely wear silver so I wore some. Not big accomplishments, but as they say, "it's the little things."

put a ribbon on it

4.28.2016
The choker trend has been killin' it lately and I am so happy I gave in. Instead of paying the ridiculous amount of money I've seen pieces of string going for around the internet, I just pulled some ribbon out of my sewing stuff because why wouldn't you??? This look makes me feel so good: like a Victorian prostitute or maybe Emily Browning in Series of Unfortunate Events. Looooovin' it.

A Little Rocksbox Love

3.21.2016
This is just a little post about my favorite pieces I have gotten from Rocksbox. They approached me about one year ago to test out their service for my blog. After about two boxes I loved it, and I applied for a job there! So now, about a year later, I am still in love with Rocksbox. I get to curate boxes of jewelry for people all over the country and it's just so fun to make people feel beautiful. I also love a ton of our pieces and we only build on our collection. These are a few of my faves.

In these photos I am wearing: Jenny Bird Moonsong Cuff, Kendra Scott Lyle Hand Bracelet in Black Mother of Pearl, Kendra Scott Ear Jacket in Blue Kyocera Opal,  Kendra Scott Grady Bangle in Periwinkle, Kendra Scott Brennan Ring Set in Rose Gold, Gorjana Taner Toggle Lariat, and Gorjana Taner Ear Climbers.

I liked the light in my bathroom today... these photos are about the only productive thing I've done today. Whoops. I really liked the way my new turquoise jewelry looked with my magenta nails so I paired it with my beloved Band of Outsiders skirt.

Illumina

6.01.2015
I think these are some of my favorite photos I have ever taken of myself for my blog. I'm getting bored of simple "hi I'm a blogger, let me pose here" outfit photos. My favorite fashion blogs are the ones where the blogger looks like she is actually living a real life while being able to capture it beautifully. I want to start taking "real photos" for my blog. I think this will be key to my self-expression and the direction in which I want to move my art and blog. Showing myself the way I am, enjoying the sunshine, feeling comfortable in a tiny tank dress and hat that I bought at the army surplus store. I took these photos in one of the "forts" that I made around my property when I was younger. This one has bottles hanging from the trees and (not pictured) a tire chair and rocks that my friend and I wrote Harry Potter quotes on.

Also noteworthy: this amazing Jenny Bird necklace. I have been working at Rocksbox for two months now and my favorite pieces have been from Jenny Bird. This necklace, called the Illumina Bib Necklace, is the exact kind of statement necklace I can handle. I'm not huge on faux crystals and bright colors in my jewelry, but this one is the perfect amount of boho and industrial. I'm also wearing these baby Sophie Harper studs and Gorjana midi ring from Rocksbox as well. And my favorite snake ring is here too.

star stories

5.09.2015
I got these beauuuuuutiful ear climbers in the mail today!!! These are the Draco Ear Crawlers from the ále by Alessandra Guest Bartender Collection at Bauble Bar. My goodness I looove them. I had been wanting some constellation-inspired jewelry and I was so excited to find these. Constellations are the most magical things to me because they are basically stories in the stars that people throughout time have created and believed in. Such a beautiful thing. So I amused myself today by painting some of my favorite constellations on my backdrop and taking some photos of my outfit today: jeans and a vest sewn together to make a shirt.

Jenny Bird Collar

4.28.2015
I have been wearing this necklace in a lot of my recent posts from my desert adventures. It came in my recent Rocksbox set and I am IN LOVE WITH IT. It's by Jenny Bird, a jewelry designer whose work I am now loving. So Rockbox approached me to talk about them on my blog, and so naturally I looked at their career page somewhere along that journey and I work for them now hahaha. I am a curator at Rocksbox and I put together sets for the girls who sign up! So I can now add that to my weird resume including ESPN Films Researcher, Band of Outsiders Intern, and two-time Movie Theater Popcorn Maker. What a life it's been. But I am really enjoying my time at Rocksbox and it feels nice to have a creative job I can do from home or wherever I happen to be traveling to.

These are some photos from the last light in my front yard. I'm wearing an Cheap Monday old dress that I throw on when I want to feel breezy over one of my favorite Victoria's Secret bralettes. The necklace and bracelet are from Rocksbox!

gold and boy jeans

3.13.2015
I got another Rocksbox set! It included this awesome pearl and spike ring and this long necklace. Also you can still use the code nibinquielxoxo for a free month of Rocksbox!
I have been wearing these jeans a lot. They are my brother's. This shirt is also a thrifted men's shirt. They are so comfy and make fancy shoes look not-too-fussy. Here are some end of the day photos. It was a warm and green day.
